A collaborative effort by Quantum Systems and AMES Foundation

Harnessing technology for wildlife protection

We are thrilled to share more details on a pioneering project in partnership with the AMES Foundation aimed at protecting Africa’s majestic wildlife. This collaboration marks a significant stride towards leveraging cutting-edge technology to ensure the safety and conservation of endangered species in one of the world’s most vital ecosystems.

The project, initiated through a dynamic hackathon, brings together a diverse team of experts from Quantum Systems, including software engineers, system engineers, hardware engineers, production engineers, technicians, and project managers. Our collective goal is to develop innovative solutions that enhance wildlife monitoring and protection efforts across an expansive area in Africa, of over 70,000 km².

AMES Foundation: Our long-term partner

AMES Foundation is a global community of makers, creatives, entrepreneurs, and conservation enthusiasts dedicated to halting the extinction of Africa’s wildlife. Since 2020, AMES has been actively involved in ground-level projects, utilizing entrepreneurial approaches to implement effective conservation strategies. Their mission is to create a safer environment for wild animals in Africa through the power of a united community, known as the Guardians. Together, we are committed to leveraging our collective expertise and resources to make a tangible difference in conservation efforts.

Our joint initiative focuses on a comprehensive strategy to monitor and protect wildlife habitats without compromising their natural integrity. Through collaborative sessions and innovative processes, our teams are developing solutions that address the unique challenges faced by conservationists.

Technology at the forefront

Central to our efforts is the integration of advanced technology to enhance wildlife monitoring and protection. Our collaboration focuses on a multi-step approach to safeguarding wildlife using advanced technologies.

Step 1: Tracking and Monitoring

Collar Attachments or Implant Devices: These devices, designed with animal well-being as a priority, help track the location of endangered species using GPS technology. This data is crucial for mapping animal movements and ensuring their safety.

Step 2: Surveillance and Alert Systems

Option A: Camera Systems

Solar-Powered, Motion-Triggered Cameras: These cameras, coupled with advanced algorithms developed by our software engineers, can differentiate between humans and animals. In case of a human intrusion, an alert is sent to rangers’ phones, enabling a swift response.

Option B: Invisible Fences

Fence Mounted Sensors: Utilizing infrared sensors and lasers, these invisible fences detect and locate poachers. An alarm is triggered and sent to rangers’ phones, with algorithms in place to distinguish between human and animal movements.

Step 3: Rapid Response

Vector Drones: Equipped with live-streaming capabilities, our Vector drones will help monitor wildlife populations, providing real-time data to our teams on the ground, allowing rangers to assess the situation quickly and respond more effectively than traditional methods.

Our engineers are driving the development of these cutting-edge technologies in-house. From tracking devices to AI algorithms, our team’s expertise stems from years of experience, including the development of our flagship products, the Vector, Scorpion and Trinity drones. By harnessing our capacities and capabilities, we’re spearheading transformative conservation methods to safeguard Africa’s wildlife with unprecedented precision and efficiency. Our commitment to innovation underscores our determination to create a safer and more sustainable future for our planet’s biodiversity.
